How much RAM does a Terraria server need?

Terraria is one of the cheapest games to host well: 2GB covers vanilla for up to 8 players, and most groups never need more. The higher tiers are for tModLoader - big packs like Calamity multiply memory use - which is why the table stops at 8GB rather than pretending Terraria can use 16GB. It can't.

RAMRecommended playersBest forPrice /moRenews at
2GBPopularUp to 8 (vanilla)Vanilla worlds - the right tier for most Terraria groups£5£5Deploy
4GB8–16Large vanilla worlds or tModLoader with a light mod list£10£10Deploy
6GB8–16 (modded)Heavy tModLoader packs - Calamity, Thorium, and big QoL stacks£15£15Deploy
8GB16+ (modded)Large modded worlds with high player counts£20£20Deploy

Every Terraria plan is priced at a flat £2.50 per GB of RAM per month, and the renewal price is the same as the intro price - the rate you sign up at is the rate you keep.

Player counts assume default settings. Modded rows depend heavily on the mod list - a 30-mod Calamity playthrough sits a tier above a five-mod QoL setup - and vanilla servers gain nothing beyond 4GB.

Built for Terraria, vanilla or modded

tModLoader, every difficulty mode, world uploads, and backups - managed from one panel.

tModLoader Support

Switch between vanilla and tModLoader from the panel and install mods like Calamity, Thorium, and Magic Storage - the server serves mods to joining players automatically.

All Difficulty Modes

Generate worlds in Journey, Classic, Expert, or Master mode, plus secret seeds like For the Worthy - difficulty is set at world creation and enforced server-side.

World Uploads

Upload an existing .wld file via FTP and carry on from your single-player or hosted world - builds, bosses downed, and world events all intact.

Automatic World Backups

Scheduled backups with one-click restore - protection against corruption or a Wall of Flesh fight that went catastrophically wrong for your hardcore characters.

Password & Player Control

Password-protect your server, set max players, and manage bans from the dashboard - with full console access for time, events, and admin commands.

Automatic Updates

The server tracks Terraria and tModLoader releases so version-mismatch join errors don't strand your group after an update.
